Gaudi Tile - Scale Reproduction

€28.50

Tile Designed by Antoni Gaudí, with certificate of origin.

Dimensions: 11 x 9'5 x 2 cms. Scale reproduction.

In 1904, when architect Antoni Gaudí was commissioned to remodel an 1875 building, he stated that his intention was to recreate paradise. The result is Casa Batlló, located on Passeig de Gràcia 43.

Gaudí designed a hexagonal tile that reflects the two constant themes in his work: geometry and symbolism. The hexagonal shape and the symbols depicted are an example of his organic architecture, based on a meticulous observation of nature.

The joints between tiles evoke natural patterns, such as fissures in clay soil, turtle shells, honeycombs of bees or the scales of certain reptiles and fish. The Gaudí tile is exhibited in the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York.
